Lt. Scott Brown of the Arlington Police Department was a guest speaker at Beach Club at Sherrod Elementary in Arlington, Texas last month. Lt. Brown comes to Beach Club each year to encourage the kids and share his strong faith in the Lord.

Lt. Brown encouraged the kids to apply themselves in school and stay in school. He also shared with them how important his faith is to him, emphasizing the importance of prayer and how that the last thing he does each night.

It is ever apparent that children today are in desperate need of good role models and Lt. Brown is certainly a stellar example. The children enjoyed hearing from Lt. Brown, getting to meet him and even take a picture with him.

Joe Montana Odhiambo, pictured with Lt. Brown, enjoys Beach Club and came to faith in Christ earlier this school year. Joe has a fun story about his name. One of the leaders was having trouble pronouncing his last name and Joe said, "Just call me Joe Montana." The leader chuckled and asked if he was named after the famous football player. Not having any idea about American football, it was explained that Montana is his middle name and in his native African language Montana means "blessing."

Susan Jiura, Club Leader, shared that they are having a great time with the kids this year. Thanks to several generous donations she was able to buy all the children a Beach Club t-shirt and the clubbers were absolutely thrilled!   Beach Club at Sherrod Elementary is sponsored by Pantego Bible Church.

It is a joy to share the stories of Beach Clubs near and far. If you serve in a Beach Club, we know you have stories. Please share them with us by emailing stories@beachclubs.org.

Burn Your Boats!

Alexander the Great, known as the world’s greatest empire builder had his target on Persia.  Two barriers to achieving his goal of conquering were present: the Greeks were less in number when compared to the other army and the Persians had the most powerful naval fleet in the world.  Thinking that his men would run away when realizing the poor odds of winning, Alexander burned his boats.  There was no return.  All that was left was to fight and conquer… so they did.

Uncertainty, doubt, fear, and hopelessness are feelings that usually paralyze us.  Frequently, we are trying to achieve a goal or change something with which we are not comfortable.  We strive for more.  In fact, this comes naturally for us as creatures of a Mighty God.  He created us with a purpose.

Is My Church Healthy?

Dec 11 4:42 PM
Dec 11 4:42 PM

The "Great Commission," found in Matthew 28:19-20, is the key ingredient to a healthy church.  "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you."

Have you ever asked the question, "Is my church obeying this command?" "Is my church healthy?" "Are we doing what the Lord instructed us to do?"  "Am I doing what He wants me to do?" Those are all good questions, and truthfully you should discover the answers to each one. I believe where the real tension comes in is in the execution and practice of this command.

Sidney and Kim Galloway are part of the Beach Club volunteer team from First Baptist Orlando that serves at Catalina Elementary School.  Their initial thought was that Sidney would help out some and be at Club as much as possible, but he would primarily take care of their business as needed on club days since Kim was the Club Leader.

Sidney and Kim work together as full-time residential realtors (www.sidneygalloway.com). Both of them preparing for and serving at Beach Club meant they would not be covering their work for part of Wednesdays. After their first club meeting, ...
